Bord Na Mona is a semi-state Irish energy company. In its Biodiversity Action Plan, the company recognises the high ecological value of peat bogs and is investing in a rehabilitation programme to phase out peat production by 2030.

Information was needed to inform decisions being taken by internal and external stakeholders regarding the funding of a proposal to conserve Littleton Bog for its unique biodiversity.  Included in the plans were  recommendations to develop a series of walking and cycling routes which connected local communities with natural assets, along with visitor infrastructure. The project overall aimed to enhance the quality of life for the local communities through the new amenities in the area and attract visitors from Ireland and overseas.

Forever Consulting assessed the social and economic value of two potential development scenarios, assessing, for example, projected visitor spend and wellbeing and amenity benefits for the local users of the site.
